LTG Cargo: Enhanced locomotive shunting practices will further decrease CO2 emissions
One of the most environmentally friendly ways of transporting freight - by rail - will become even more environmentally friendly. LTG Cargo, the LTG Group's freight transport company, will organize transportation and shunting operations in a more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly way in order to further reduce its carbon footprint.
LTG Cargo has developed a fuel saving plan to reduce energy - fuel - consumption. For example, the measures developed by analysing the performance of locomotives in freight and shunting operations alone allow for a weekly reduction of 6 tonnes of diesel fuel, enough to fill the fuel tanks of about 120 cars.
"Business can and must grow on a green course. The Fuel Efficiency Plan and other sustainable, environmentally friendly solutions that LTG Cargo applies to its operations create value for customers who are interested in reducing their CO2 footprint. Last year, LTG Cargo saved 667,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide that would have been released into the environment if road transport had been used, and this year this figure will be even higher," says LTG Cargo CEO Eglė Šimė.
LTG Cargo's responsible approach to quality and the environment is also demonstrated by the Quality and Environmental Management Certificate obtained in July. This is an external confirmation that the company's daily operations are guided by the standards applied by the most advanced and efficient companies.
"LTG Cargo applies environmentally friendly and quality-assured solutions in all areas of its daily operations. The trust of customers, the focus on efficiency and creating value for customers, and the desire to strengthen the company's competitiveness in both internal and external markets, oblige us to find the best ways to act. The certificate awarded to the company is an objective confirmation of this constant work," says Laimonas Nekrošius, Head of Sales and Development of Services.
The quality and environmental management standard is confirmed by the ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 management system certificates. Quality and environmental management is about efficient processes, traceability and accountability, competence management, etc.
LTG Cargo is currently in the process of acquiring electric locomotives, a significant step towards enhancing our sustainability efforts and reducing CO2 emissions. It is estimated that the new electric locomotives will save about 780,000 tonnes of CO2 per year (compared to road transport) and will enable the company to offer completely green transport to its business.
