New cars – by rail: a shipment of new KIAs arrived to Kaunas
LTG Cargo, the LTG Group's rail freight company, has completed a special project transport on an European railway line, delivering almost 230 new KIAs to Kaunas for the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian markets.
"LTG Cargo's goal is to develop the North-West-South corridors and new routes, and every successful project contributes to this goal. Although this transport project is special in terms of its scope and the number of partners involved, we are pleased that by cooperating with carriers from other countries we are able to offer our customers a sustainable and high-quality service," says Eglė Šimė, CEO of LTG Cargo.
According to LTG Cargo's CEO, car manufacturers are increasingly opting for rail as a sustainable mode of transport, where large volumes of cars can be transported in a relatively short period of time, without the need to hire dozens of trucks with drivers and without overcrowding the roads.
The nineteen-wagon convoy covered a distance of almost 1 000 km from KIA's factory in Žilina, Slovakia, to the unloading point in Palemonas. LTG Cargo's Polish subsidiary LTG Cargo Polska transported the largest distance - via Poland. In Lithuania, a LTG Cargo locomotive hauled the consignment along the European railway to Kaunas, while AV Terminal handled the unloading and distribution of the cars in the Baltic States.
The European rail line from Poland to Kaunas, opened in 2015, allows intermodal and other freight to and from Western Europe without having to transship cargo between Poland and Lithuania. LTG Cargo is currently carrying out regular intermodal transports on the Kaunas-Lodz-Duisburg route, as well as expanding the geography of its transports and organizing project transports, such as last year's rail transports from Austria.
LTG Cargo is an LTG Group company that will continue its active integration and expansion in the West. The company provides freight transport, intermodal transport, logistics and freight forwarding, freight loading, locomotive and wagon repair and wagon rental services in Lithuania and abroad.
