LTG Cargo Polska acquires new wagons for intermodal transport
LTG Cargo Polska, a subsidiary of LTG Cargo, the LTG Group's rail freight transport company in Poland, has acquired 72 new pocket wagons with funding from the European Union's Transport Projects Center. They are designed for transporting containers and semi-trailers on European gauge (1435 mm) railways.
"In the competitive Polish intermodal transport market, where more than forty carriers provide services, LTG Cargo Polska has managed to establish itself and rank sixth in terms of freight volume in the growing intermodal transport market. We continue to focus on improving the efficiency and growth of our operations, so the acquisition of our own wagons is an important step. With the new wagons, we will be able to offer sustainable, efficient, and high-quality services for transporting cargo traveling to Western Europe from roads to railways," says Eglė Šimė, head of LTG Cargo.
Following a tender announced in the summer, a contract for the manufacture of pocket wagons was signed with the Bulgarian company Kolowag. According to Laimonas Nekrošius, president of LTG Cargo Polska, the new pocket wagons will be used on the Kaunas-Duisburg intermodal route, which since June has included an intermediate stop at the large logistics hub in Łódź.
"We are constantly looking for opportunities to provide better services to our customers, so in order to purchase new wagons, we submitted an application to the Polish National Intermodal Transport Recovery Plan Fund administered by the EU Transport Projects Center, from which we secured €7 million in financing for this purchase," says L. Nekrošius, head of LTG Cargo Polska.
LTG Cargo Polska is a subsidiary of LTG Cargo, which began operations in Poland in 2020 with the aim of strengthening logistics supply chains and improving freight mobility between Lithuania, Poland, and Western Europe.
